Had an Epiphany today...
Well my SR shaves are getting better and better each day!
I am at the point where I can be presentable for the work day just using the SR (I used to have to go over with the DE to get it looking ok) and as of a day ago, my cheeks are BBS.
I keep on having trouble getting my neck to BBS, I do a WTG and XTG and ATG pass (Finally comfortable holding the razor for all 3) and yet even though I can get the neck CLOSE, I still feel stubble.
Well this morning I realized what I am doing wrong, my XTG pass on the neck I am going from center of throat to side of neck diagonally, but this morning, a light bulb went off in my head (took a few min for the CF bulb to brighten up in my head LOL) and realized EUREKA!! "my hair doesn't grow that way on my neck"!! I realized that what I need to do is to go from the outer jawline near my ear to the center of my throat! Still trying to figure out how to hold the razor while doing that so I don't slice myself, but this mornings shave while still stubbly on the neck was NOTICEABLY better
Thanks to all the helpful advice everyone has given! It's appreciated!

The neck seems notorious for growing in some odd direction that is difficult to figure out. Congrats - that is the key to a close neck shave IMHO.

I feel your pain on this one. My neck hair grows from west to east and can be a pain. I do a sort of diagonal XTG/ATG which gets it smooth enough, because usually a full ATG gets me more ingrowns than I care to have.

My neck hair grows laterally, from the apple towards the back, I shave from the base of the neck up towards the jawline, I dont try for anything fancy here, pick your battles.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 1195That's why it's hard to give neck shaving advice, because everyones growth is different, requiring different methods of attack. Though we can give general recommendations it is still up to the user to experiment and find an approach that works best for them.
BTW, congrats - it sounds like you're well on your way!

Yeah, the hairs on the neck can give you fits no matter what kind of blade your using; SR, DE, cart..whatever.
