Congratulations on your shave! I guess we're going to have to have another baby because I can never find anything to compare my shaves to.

Ace, get some sandpaper and you'll always judge your shaves excellent.
CaliforniaCajun, it's always nice to hear how everything came together for an excellent shave. Congratulations.

Thanked: 1195It's always great when you can put the words "exceptional" and "shave" together in the same sentence. Well done

Thanked: 270Thanks for the feedback. It took me a year and a half to master the "beast" and it's been so much fun to get a great shave every time (although I think this one was better than usual).
Two months after I started I sliced my thumb to the tendon while switching hands. I was so focused on my technique I couldn't perform. The doctor laughed at me while stitching me up, and honestly I had to laugh too because of my obsession trying to master this thing. I made up my mind then that I wouldn't let that razor win after that.
I watched a lot of videos learning how to do this, and I would imagine that a truly smooth barber shave would cost a lot of money. I figure that learning to pamper myself with something that would be expensive if I couldn't do it myself is worth celebrating!
Thanks again for the encouragement, folks, not only now but throughout the journey.

And I'm sure you'll get better even still.
I am glad you posted this information. I'm probably near the 100 shave mark, either a little before or a little past. I've heard more experienced members mention that at 100 shaves, you will notice the difference, etc. etc.
Well, I think that's true. I'm much more comfortable with my razors now and no longer am afraid to use my squarepoint (even if I still cut myself every now and again).
However, I know I'm not at the place you are and don't expect to be for quite some time. I hear all the time how people newer than I am are getting BBS shaves left and right. It's debatable whether that's the end-all and be-all of shaving, anyway, but this far into the game (and it's admittedly not far) I know I have a long way to go before it all comes together, especially consistently.
Your post and this thread give me renewed hope that this will all come together one day for me, too. Thank you.

Thanked: 1195I wouldn't worry about it, Mark. I'm not singling anyone out, but this is the internet and anyone can make any claim they want, none of which can be verified. I've also read some claims from guys that, at 100+ shaves in, they have yet to draw any blood; the odds of this occuring are extremely small.
Everyone has their own learning curve, level of manual dexterity, sense of depth perception etc. Just concentrate on yourself and it will all come together soon enough.
