Default It's like Christmas for a ten year old!

I got my delivery from Straight Razor Designs yesterday and I'm itchin' to try my first shave (well, a partial shave at this point). I read a bit on the boards and I've decided not to strop the blade before shaving. I'm going to do a little practicing with a butter knife first to get the feel for it then I'll strop after the shave. I thought it best to see what a Lynn Abrams honed razor feels like that way I have something to compare to in the future. I have also decided to try some glycerine in my lather. What do you guys think? I have somewhat sensitive skin so I thought it might be a good idea. Plus since I'm only shaving a small part of one side of my face and finishing with the regular razor, I'll have something to compare to. What do yo guys think? Any tips or suggestions?

I think that's a great plan, let us know how it goes.

I personally love using glycerin soap. I will add a finger dab of the art of shaving scream to my mug which has a puck in the bottom to help mix up a good lather. Since I have been using the glycerin soap, I have not had razor burn once.

Great plan, sir. I made the mistake of stropping my blades before I knew how to not damage both the strop and the blade. Live and learn I say, but probably best to use the freshly-honed razor without ruining it first like I did. I have yet to buy glycerin, but it's on my list. Read Lynn's advice for starting out and enjoy! You'll be comfortable with shaving before you know it.

May want to take some time to practice making lather before putting steel to face..... that way you can make sure you have a good lather for your first shave

    Enjoy!!
