I reckon you might need compressed air for that new 'un James
lol! Yeah, I was thinking that Oz, but I doubt the wife would let me bring the air compressor into the bathroom!

Thanks for the offer Jim, it is very kind. However, rather than risk one of your beautiful Kreigars just send me one of those worthless Mappin and Web Lancet edges - that way you won't care if I "lose" it, I'm sure.....

Thank you to everyone who has replied so far. It appears there is a lot of hybrid blade cleaning going on during shaving, and there are a lot of excellent ideas for me to think about - the sponge idea (or variations) seems like it might be worth investigating, at least for this particular razor (and thank you Birnando for linking the pics!). I shall also take a look at the oil/alcohol mix idea too.

I've successfully managed to avoid moisture (and hence rust) on my razors during storage for a number of years, mainly by studiously (or perhaps obsessively) drying the blades post-shave - I've been a "swisher in water" guy for all my shaving life when it comes to removing lather and whiskers - a hold-over I think to the bad old days of the Mach 3. However, as I mentioned in the OP I think for this particular razor "discretion is the better part of valour" - if I can avoid, or minimise, moisture around those holes I think it would be best in the long run.

So thanks again, and please let me know what you do if you have not yet posted - all data is important and I would love to know, in as much detail as you would care to give, what you do about getting rid of the lather and stubble during your shaves.

I am off for my first shave with my new custom..... it may be slightly sacrilegious, but I think I will call it my "holy" razor....

During the shave, I rinse in a sink full of hot water, wipe it on my bath towel, and finish shaving. Afterwards, I dunk it barbercide for 5 minutes while I clean up other crap. Then I rinse it, dry it with a towel, 15-20 strops on the linen, 30-40 on the leather, then apply a little oil. Boom.

Funny you mention that. When I use a wood scaled razor I usually hit it for a couple of minutes with the wife's hair dryer for good measure.

I wipe lather off (on a bar towel placed on the edge of the basin) during the shave, but I rinse it in hot water when I've finished, just before wiping it dry on tissue paper. I thought that the remaining moisture would evaporate better off a warm blade than a cold one.

I always rinse my razor in my filled basin while shaving, then wipe when finished shaving to make sure its clean and dry

Rinse, then wipe thoroughly with a dry hand towel. I then add a couple of drops of oil.

Though, I am going to try Utopian's method in place of adding the oil directly.
May your lather be moist and slick, the sweep of your razor sure, and your edge always keen!

OK, just to update. First shave with this new razor and I used the "wipe on a towel" technique. An excellent shave, by the way!

Moisture avoidance seemed to go pretty well but when I moved on to my head I discovered that if I let too much lather and whisker build up it squishes through the holes no matter how carefully I wipe. No biggy, just something to remember for the future.

Anyway, at the end I carefully wiped the blade down with a towel, took a firm grip and waved the razor rapidly through the air for 30 seconds or so (kind of like how I get excess moisture out of my brush). I then had a brain-wave (for me! ) Cotton ear buds!!! I grabbed one, and they fit perfectly in the holes! I think I might be onto a winner here!

To quote another Aussie: Big Balls! You better make sure that grip is more than just firm!
