A Whole New Level
Hi All,
Straight shaving for me is more fun than ever. I have a Dovo Black Star and a restored Wade and Butcher half wedge, which have always given me an ok shave. Recently I purchased some Naniwa stones – the 5000, 8000 and the 12000. I also already have a chromium oxide paddle which I made. Anyway, I tried my hand at refreshing the blades and after a few tries I think I have developed a little proficiency at honing. Both blades now give me a BBS shave equivalent to or better than my DE razor.
In addition, I have changed my routine and I now strop my razor and set up my shaving paraphernalia the night before. This gives me the time every morning to use my straight. I am now shaving six days per week (the seventh I rest) with my straight razor. How cool is that!
I just want to thank everyone on this sight for all of your encouragement, insights, tips, facts and all around help in bringing me to this level of shaving. I am excited to wake up every morning and look forward to my shave. How many men can say that and it’s all because of the wonderful people on this forum.
Thanks to all,
Ira

Glad to hear you are getting along with your hones so well. It's an extraordinary feeling to be able to keep your razors shave-ready. I can't wait to get my hands on my Naniwa 12k (back-ordered). Cheers!

Thanked: 220On behalf of everyone here, you're welcome! It's also good to see that you picked up the knack for honing so soon, I'm not so lucky, as most of my hone jobs get sent away to get re-done!
