Default TI's: Silver Steel vs. Carbon

I had an Evide Sonnant, which is made of carbon steel, and I wasn't all that impressed. Is there a dramatic difference in the shave quality between the carbon TI razors and the one's made with Sheffield silver steel?

By the way, I own several razors made of carbon steel that shave great... I'm just looking for a comparison of the TI razors made of carbon (e.g. evide sonnant) and the one's made of sheffield silver steel.

Even for those of you who have not shaved with a TI carbon based blade... how do you like your sheffield silver steel razor?

    thanks
    Drew

If it says "Sheffield Steel", it's usually pretty good.

I'll have to agree that of the few TI's I've had to my hone and face, the Silver Steel variety have been marginally better to work with. Those are the new line razors. I'll bet it's another story again if we look into the antiques.

I love my TI Sheffield. The edge lasts a long time and I get it almost scary sharp. I have an older Sheffield as well and it's pretty much the same thing. The TI is just a touch nicer but I figure anything Sheffield will do the trick for me.

My experience with Sheffields is mixed. They're either GREAT shavers or duds. The great ones keep me looking for more lol.

I have a bunch of TIs and I believe they are all sheffield types but the best for shaving is the Pierre Thiers Limited edition. Its from blanks personally made by the master and its probably my best shaver even beats the TI damascus by a wide margin.

I just got one last week, and I'd have to concur. My Friodurs and Heljestrands are feeling lonely nowadays.
