Where's Utopian/Ron on this one? I remember him getting all bent out of shape on this topic.

Unfortunately from what I've heard, Utopian is no longer on this forum.

I've been shaving with a straight off-and-on for a couple years, using a DE the majority of the time, but about 6 months ago I switched to primarily using a straight, only breaking out the DE every once in a while if I was in a hurry. While I'm certainly not an old pro, I've been accruing experience for a couple years before I went exclusive back in September
HAD plays dirty. It lead me to straight razors, not the other way around.

    I'll second that....but be careful.

The only two times I've ever cut myself shaving with a straight razor was when using a
    scything stroke:

The first time was when I was a novice, and didn't know anything; the second time was
40 years later....when I thought that I knew everything and got careless.

And Glen's right about stropping, too.
