Prep is crucial for me. I always start with a shower and I shave at night or as soon as I get home from work as I'm not much of a morning(read mourning) person. If for some extraordinary reason I don't have time for that, I probably wouldn't shave or if I really couldn't wait, my bare minimum would be a thorough face washing, exfoliating scrub and then lather under a hot towel for ~3 minutes.
I'm grateful that there are various shops and stores here where I can find some quality shaving products. It took a lot of looking to figure it out and piece together the tools and materials I wanted. I don't always find everything so when that happens, I go on the computer and click a few buttons and it gets dropped off at my doorstep which really helps when my ends of sanity begin to fray(awesome if you know where that reference is from )
I use a pre shave cream or oil among all the rest of my steps. The prep to shaving joy relationship is cumulative. Every little bit helps.Last edited by AndrewK; 04-23-2012 at 09:33 PM.

I always shave after a shower so there is no excuse for me not to do some form of prep even if it's just running my face under HOT water for a few minutes....
When I first started wet shaving, I did the hot towel treatment, with hot lather mixed in a scuttle, etc etc.... And while i still treat myself to that usually on Sundays, my daily routine is much more simplified..
Hot Shower, while in shower wash face, conditioner on whiskers while cleaning rest of body/washing hair, hot rinse, and keep whiskers wet. Use soap and brush right on face (no scuttle) and shave. Takes no more time then it does to shower normally and it works fine but I wouldn't want to do any LESS...
