Razor size?
Is there really a lot of diffence between a 6/8 and a 7/8? I've used a 5/8 and a 6/8. I'm thinking of getting into the bigger sizes.

Enough of a difference that your hold will feel different. They all shave well it all depends on how you like the feel
5/8 to a 7/8 is a big jump and if your not used to it can feel rather fumbly, but that doesn't take long to get past, maybe a shave or two.
I've been using 7/8's for so long now that a 5/8 feels kind of whimpy, and some downright uncomfortable in my hand, but I have larger hands...

Most 7/8's is heavier, and of course 1/8" wider
It's really all a matter of taste, try one and see what you think.
Personally I prefer 6/8's or wider, anything smaller feels like a toy And I feel I have slightly better control when honing and stropping the bigger blades.

As stated above, they all shave, but there are quite distinct differences in feel and maneuverability.
From my own experience, I'd say the 5/8 and 6/8 are the easiest to learn this sport on, but once you have the proper technique down, anything from a 3/8 to a 10/8 or even larger will do the job just fine.

I have them all and use them all however personally I find the 7/8s clumsy compared to a 5/8s.
When you jump from a 6/8s to a 7/8s the size and heft difference is quite remarkable.

5/8s always seem too small to me whereas a 6/8 or bigger feels just right. Go for it!

Thanks folks. I have my eye on the TI Loup et Béllier/Sheffield Silver Steel. I am just trying to decide between the 6/8 or 7/8. I have been using the Evidé Sonnant (6/8) with fairly good results. I also have a Dovo Bismark which (6/8) does not do it for me. Nothing wrong with it I guess but I have become drawn to the TI razors. Maybe a year from now I might think differently but for now the Singing Razors have won me over. Of course I would like a Wade and Butcher too. But I have not seen one that I really wanted to have.

Thanked: 57I moved up to a 6/8 from a 5/8 and I love the size, weight and heft of the big blade. I have big hands but what I like most is that the big blades give you more control on the face and on the strop.

Thanked: 983I've tried from 4/8 up to 8/8 and I have to say I have a preference for anything 6/8 and wider. I prefer my 13/16 and 8/8 over and above anything else.

Same experience for me. I have 7/8s and larger but truth be told my favorite is the 5/8. If you only have the 6/8 I would certainly go with the 7/8. You'll never know until you try. It may feel unwieldy at first but you'll get used to it. Even though 5/8 is my favorite I like my larger blades too.
