I don't know about us in particular being a bunch of weenies, but us as a generation, sure. I agree, however, that laziness probably did not drive the initial change, though it certainly has prevented much of a "regression." When your only choice is electric or disposable, it's pretty hard to choose anything else. When you make electricity's availability questionable, then you really only have one choice left.

On the OIF packing list for I MEF, 1 razor with (10) or more blades is still listed as a mandatory item. Even if you shave with an electric in the field (as I do, my norelco lasts almost a month on a charge, haven't had it die on me yet), you're required to lug around the stupid disposables. Really, the disposable razor companies could not achieve better product placement.

As I read the posts here and remember some of what the older folks said as I was growing up, it is probably true that laziness wasnt as much of the answer then as it is currently. Without a doubt, the mostly self induced frantic schedule of contemporary life precludes the use of a straight for most people. Priorities win out, do I spend these 3 spare nanoseconds with my family or persuing an archaic art form, etc etc. There are many folks that almost live at that kind of pace, I did at one time. Now, I wake up a little earlier.

The Str8 is one of the things that refocuses life for me. Hurry through it, and it will cut you. Focus, instead of zipping over the surface like a disposable. Ive gone minimalist in order to free up the time to enjoy the simple things and live a less 'disposable' life. There seems to be an increasing trend on a cultural level towards this and its probably a good thing.
