Default J. A. Henckels Shave-First time with major brand razor

So I got a J. A. Henckels from that antique shop in my post http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...loads-o-o.html and It was in fairly rough shape. So I did some hand sanding to take out the major discrepancies but then my dad decided to help...he who is too nervous to shave with one himself. He sort of ruined the edge. So I grabbed the 1000 and started to work. After about an hour of initial sharpening and another half hour trying to fix one damned dull spot, I had the bevelling done. I honed it on the hone my brother had and it was done. I did the arm hair test and it worked like magic. Being impressed with it there, I decided to shave with it. And for all the times I've shaven with a razor before, this was the best. The Ernst Witte I have is a rock compared to the Henckels. It was a wonderful experience I must say and I hope to have more like it.

Congrats! I'll ask a newbie question, is the Ernst Witte a synthetic rock? And you used the 1000 to set the bevel, then moved to the EW or something else?

Lol nah. The Ernst Witte is my first razor. But compared to the Henckels, it shaves like a rock.

perhaps the Witte is not sharp enough... then again a razor honed from the dead always feels good... especially if you did it all yourself.

My first major-brand razor was a Henckels, as well. A fellow SRP member honed it for me and finished it on his Escher, and it's an absolute dream to shave with. I haven't used it much in the last few weeks, but it's on deck, for sure.

Like the obsidian that cavemen used to scratch their face off.

Well, the forward-thinking ones roll, so they won't have to.
