Default Problems with testing new products

First off I wasn't even going to shave today till I got a stick of Arko in the mail and decided to test it out. Which I do have to say was idiot proof cause I was even able to make a very nice lather easily. The smell isn't all that great, but I am not too concerned about the smell. I also finally had the chance to test out a new razor that has been sitting around waiting to be used. A 6/8 Herm Konejung A-G "Lord" which I also stropped on a new strop that I got "The Filly". I had a really nice smooth shave, but I shouldn't have used so many new products cause now I am not sure how each item works on its own. Guess I will have to use a razor that I know shaves well with soap and strop separately. The razor I will have to use with a soap or cream that I am familiar with. I am glad that I had a really nice shave, but I like to test out new things with stuff that I know how they work first that way a can adjust things accordingly. Maybe I should just take a break from buying new stuff.........Nah where is the fun in that.

I've had days like that where I get a bunch of new stuff and can't help using all as soon as possible. Usually my routine is to use a new soap about ten times in a row to make sure I know how it works.

Exactly....: Straight Razor Place - Beginners Tips: May 2012

When I get a new soap or cream I always use a razor I know is in top shape, same with razors, when I get a new one I got a couple go-to soaps for the first couple shaves.

Less variables = easier to know what works and not, and why...

No need to stop buying stuff, just keep your variables at a minimum.

If you got a great shave and sounds like you found a winning combination, nothing wrong with that. BUT..... if anything goes wrong down the road it will be tougher to figure out the issue. In that case you have to go backwards - remove a variable at a time until you find the problem (as opposed to adding a variable at a time, like you would if you had done it the other way around).

Yea that is why I usually like to use one new thing with things that I already know what they are capable of. Was just in a rush to use the new soap. Either way I will be testing everything more. Just have to take is slow I guess. The strop I used on one other razor that I haven't had the time to use so I will be using that one next with a soap that I have used quite often and see how that goes. I used to hate shaving, but now I find that I enjoy it alot more since I started using a straight.
