First Blood
Well, had my first shave today with a razor I had been honing for a while... I knew it wasn't fully ready but working on these razors and not being able to use them (other than on my arm......which by the way is now nekid of hair) is like having someone bake brownies all day and never being able to even taste one!
This was my first SR shave and I did draw blood on my left cheekbone. Just a small 1.5 inch nick caused by doing repeated small strokes and pressing just a little too hard on one.
So my eagerness was rewarded..... then I found that I had NO stiptic pencil... so it was press with the TP until coagulated.
Even though the razor wasn't perfectly ready, It did shave, though not as close as a Mach3.
I hope things change when my Norton stone gets here. I have 4 that need to be brought up to shaving level and quick.... I'm running out of safety razors.

Thanked: 346Almost every nick I've ever had was caused by a dull razor. The two exceptions were caused by loosing track of the tip while shaving with the heel, and the tip caught something nickable.

I agree about nicks. I used to cut myself all the time with my Mock 3. Then I started using a DE, and still nicked myself once in a while, but less than the cartridges.
I hardly ever draw blood with my straight. I've never had a nick that bled more than a drop or two. Well, except for the time that I accidentally inserted the tip of my roundpoint 6/8 into my ear and sliced downward... It cut the skin at the base of my earlobe really good and bled for 30 minutes. DO watch where the tip of your razor is at all times, and take it slow.

My first "nick"
I've only been shaving for about 2 weeks with my SR and while I'm not getting the closest shave (yet), I was proud of the fact that I hadn't sustained any nicks. Well that streak ended yesterday. I had a very, very, small (unnoticeable) pimple on my left cheek that I didn't even see before I lathered up.
No pain, just a clean deli slicer removal of a pimple and a drop or two of blood that stopped in less than a minute (didn't even have to use the styptic pencil).
Moral of the story for me: Even if the SR doesn't seem to be sharp enough (I'm struggling with honing/stropping) it is more than sharp enough to inflict quick cuts with any lapse in attention. I was also surprised that the SR "found" such a little difference in the surface of my face.
