And don't shave naked.

I to wear the badges of the straight razor. When I started I watched Lynn shave and he put a towel on the counter between the sink and the edge of the counter. Second, I always have a small area rug under my feet and lastly, I always shave with pants or shorts on. Nothing sounds worse then a razor hitting the counter or floor i.e. tile. Always keep the blood stop powder available. Some of the worse cuts I got were on my fingers not my face. Loose pins can really take their toll.
I only keep the tried and true septic pencil on hand,I've never used anything like witch hazel but I've found that alum blocks don't seem to do much.
Of course there is always ice water, direct pressure and I supposed if it was real bad there is always a tourniquet. :w :hmmm:
You can go to any store like Rite-Aid, CVS etc and in either the shaving or first aid sections they have the cut stop powder in tubes. The stuff was first made for the military. When you get a bad cut, I use peroxide on fingers then apply pressure and apply the stop bleed. It's amazing how fast it stops it. You can also pick up water proof band aides which work good. When I got a really bad cut, I used butterfly bandages that really help in the healing.
A septic pencil sounds unsanitary, but I have used witch hazel, and it works for light weepers and nicks, but not cuts. Feels great though. My alum block, same.
I do have pencil, and also a roll-on type that seems to have decreased in effectiveness. I haven't seen the tubes of powder. I'll check it out.
