Yours is a wise approach. For me the result is an edge I can comfortably (much more so than with any other shaving method) shave ATG in one pass without damage. The only other contender is a shavette but it lacks the ability to lie flat against my face while maintaining edge contact. The result is nicks as the higher angle which results guides the blade down to skin.

It is really JimmyHAD and SRP to blame for my unquenched obsession to find the magic stone. Without their influence I might have gone back to the ignorant bliss of cartridge shaving.
