Yes, my first razor has a grinding error and a slightly warped spine. It also has a wire edge bevel and had 8 chips. He checked under the microscope. I'm glad now I've had it sent off to get done properly, it makes me wonder about the other two I have on order. You're right, my dad didnt use a straight, but my grand dad did, it was army issue during the war.

Thanked: 5My first dovo was fairly rough. I just put it on a hone and it took a bit on the 4k side to get a small chip out. I put it on the 8 k and it shaves better but still needs some work. This is my first time honing and I am not trying to rush it and mess up.

After speaking to Neil I'm glad i didnt try and hone mine. First off he used a loupe and then a microscope. Once he knew there was a slight warp on the spine, attempting to hone it would cause an uneven bevel. Once he's done it properly the first time, honing shouldnt be such a big deal, but there really is more to it than first meets the eye.

Thanked: 5i have been anxious to put steel to stone but have suppressed the urge. i have been watching several vids from members here and a dvd from lynn over and over. i am going to get another chance tonight to get mine back on the 8k and do some more finishing. yes it is more than meets eye. there is a lot of feel to it to. i think taking slow measured steps and regularly checking your blade will help.
