Thanked: 247Fow much for a pro shave?
Moderators, if this is offensive, please delete it. I intend no foul other than interesting discussion.
While traveling this weekend, I happened upon a place that still offers professional shaves the old way (hot towels, nice warm lather, and a professional shave with a straight). They were closed and so I was not able to get the gory details, but it got me thinking.
What would you expect to pay for a shave...or for those of you that have found places like these, how much do they charge?
While in grad school I had a barber friend and she charged the same price for a shave as for a hair cut (11 bucks at the time). This place I found this weekend (came highly recommended by a friend) only charges 6 bucks!
I am just curious what have you guys seen? I am sure it will vary greatly with locale.
Again, if this is poor taste just let me know and I'll blank the post.

There's a place here in town that does it, I believe they charge 30 bucks and you have to make a reservation a day in advance.
The place is cool though, I've been in but not had the shave. It's nothing but old vintage barbers chairs, even a vintage towel streamer. They apparently use about a dozen towels per shave.

If the shave is decent, 6 bucks for that kind of treatment sounds like a real bargain.

Last year before i took my friend to his wedding we went and have a shave at a local barber. It was the works. He charged $45. I do a better shave myself but they totally pampered us. Worth every cent.

Thanked: 247Honestly I am not surprised by higher prices. To provide for the masses it's probably got a decent overhead cost to contend with.

Thanked: 146My barber does straight shaves. 10 bucks and its by appointment, but if I asked and he wasn't busy he would probably do it. I have not had him shave me, but my brother did once, and he said although the shave wasn't the closest, the pampering was great, he said every guy should experience this at least once.
