Thanked: 247I feel stupid asking, but I have to...
I have collected a few razors now and rotate through them.
I have learned that it is a great idea to oil them before putting them away (particularly considering that some will spend a fair bit of time in storage before getting used again).
I have also learned to be really careful wiping the blades dry so that the edge is not damaged.
So here comes the question.
How do you guys oil the blade?
I actually searched for videos on this and could not find any...it is perhaps to dang simple to make a video of LOL.
Anyway, thanks for your assistance,
Ken

I dip a cotton swab (Q-tip) in some mineral oil and use it to wipe on the oil.

I hold the bottle with my finger over the opening (it's about 1/4") and give the bottle a flip to wet it. Rub that between my finger and thumb & give the blade a quick swipe, oiling both sides at once.

Thanked: 247I have a bottle with an applicator...what I am not sure of is how guys actually apply the oil to the blade without concern for over application, or damaging the edge.
Generally I make several swipes with the applicator from the spine toward the edge as gently as I can, then wipe the excess off the blade faces with a tissue. Perhaps I am over-thinking this, but it just seems like there ought to be an easier way that wastes less oil (not that I am really wasting all that much, but it would be nice to apply the right amount and not have to remove any.

Thanked: 146Unit, you seem to have skills as far as making stuff. Couldn't you make a bottle with a wick from a kerosene lamp that had oil in it? The wick would stick out the top and you could just draw the blade over it and I would think that would get you the proper amount.

I don't oil blades often, but when I do I use my index finger and thumb and wipe the blades down the hollow and outward off the edge. All motion away from the edge of a blade is safe. I can do both sides of the blade with one simple swipe.

Thanked: 41Re: I feel stupid asking, but I have to...
Question for those who use the black oil applicator: how much oil do you put in the bottom? And how "soft" should the tip be?
I put some camellia oil in the bottom and the wicky/tip is still stiff so it leaves an uneven coat on the blade. Wanted to see if my tip was normal or if I needed more oil. (Consequently, I also asked this question on prom night.)
Thanks!

I had the bright idea to get an envelope moistener from Staples because they were really cheap and I didn't want to pay shipping cost on one dumb black bottle. So I put the mineral oil in the bottle and a couple of days later the sponge came loose from the bottle... You get what you pay for. Anyway...I still keep the little sponge on top of the bottle and when I am ready to oil the blade, I moisten the sponge with the mineral oil and apply it to the blade.
Btw, does anyone use sewing machine oil on their razors?
