Thanked: 459To shaving with a straight razor, my wife said "you're an idiot". I only started because I wanted to gauge how tough it was for people "in the old days". Turns out if they had a decent razor and a decent finishing stone, it wasn't difficult at all. Likely they could get better strops back then than we can get now, at least in the moderate price range where all of our strops are cowhide.
My mother brought up the earth thing. That'd be my mother who talks about a lot of green stuff, travels the world, and heats a huge house for two people.
I didn't start shaving to be green. Green is all fine and good, but the best way to get to it in reality is to be poor. I don't want to be poor.
Or in terms of facial stuff, growing a beard.
There is far too much satisfaction to be had with straight razors to ever put constraints on it.
I should have an escher very soon - I hope to get some of that "too sharp" feeling that people are talking about - at least if it can be had without leaving bits of a wire edge on a razor.
