First Full Week of Straight Shaving
This morning made 6 days in a row of straight shaving. I alternated between a Dovo Best Quality 1/2 Hollow 5/8, and a Kanenaga Kamisori (50mm). I am even getting the hang of ATG. It's not all perfect yet, but getting there.
Two things I've discovered: 1. I shave better without using Pre-Shave Oil. I don't know why, I just do. I've now eliminated pre-shave oil since it does not appear to add anything of value. 2. Using just water or a schmear of very wet cream on the second pass or XTG, and ATG, works like a charm. Fully brushing my face with cream like I do on the first pass gets me nowhere.
Cheers,
Jack

Thanked: 88Preshave oil is one of those YMMV things. I prefer stuff that includes steric acid (either Barbasol or a good cream that has it) or something that makes my skin feel good (something with menthol or eucalyptus oil) for preshave. Oil doesn't do much for me, either. I like a much wetter cream for the touchups, too - not clear water (though some do), but a sort of runny mix.
