Thread: How many" Feel Good" shave passes?

While shaving everything seemed to fall in place.Prep work ,plenty of warm lather, my blade was properly honed and stropped. The bathroom atmosphere was just right and there was plenty of shavetime available .
I began to shave and things were silky smooth .My face was BBS after< 3 passes
( WTG,XTG,ATG) with no irrittation what so ever.I continued with two addtional light passes WTG just for fun, I felt like I could not stop because it felt SOooo Good ,>I had a total of five passes and minimal irritation afterward.
During the the day I could not keep my hands off my face. I had to restraint myself from lathering up again that same day.
Question- 1. Has this happened to anyone else here?
2. What is your total just for fun " pass count" without blowing out your face?

Welcome from Medina, OH. I usually do a 2 pass shave and that usually will work fine. When it's right, it's tough to quit feeling the smoooooooth. Have fun.

Just 1 1/2 - 2 passes for me, maybe 3 if I need to be clean-shaven for days.

Shaving the lather off of balloons is also fun and a time-honored tradition among straight shavers, and doesn't risk razor burn.

You may never reach the point of irritation with a straight razor. Have all the fun you want.

For now I do one with the grain then some across the grain and a little spot under my chin againest the grain. So far that works well for me. I've had very little if no irritation at all lately.

When the lather is especially good and the mood is right i too have done a couple of passes just for fun.

I usually do two passes to get a really great shave. Yes it sometimes is hard to stop you just want to keep lathering up and continue shaving.

I'm 2 passes as well. It doesn't take long before the teique improves to the point where anything else is redundant.

I guess it's two and a half for me.

I go with the grain for the first pass, across for the second, and then there are certain areas that requre some extra attention, going against the grain.

My problem is, I don't want to feel any stubble, even when I'm running my fingers against the grain of my stretched skin. Obsessively close, is what that is.

My routing includes a 2-pass shave, one WTG and then ATG. I don't grow that much facial hair, so going with and then against doesn't cause much, if any irritation. I've done a single pass WTG on a few occasions, but never have done a 3 pass shave (don't need to since I can skip the XTG pass). I have shaved twice in one day though; once normally and then once at night to show a freind who was interested. My face didn't appriciated it all that much tho; probably would have shreded everything had I not been using a straight
