Thanked: 433I practiced with a butter knife on my face to practice hand switching and get some muscle memory, it's not the same but my left hand felt way less stupid after doing this.
Some of us only use their dominate hand, others like me have a modified technique (me, both hands WTG, dominate hand only ATG).
Your first shave sounds and looks pretty typical, twenty shave from now it will feel pretty normal

Well done mate. You did better than my first time, although I was using a factory finish Dovo which wasnt shave ready. You will be surprised how quickly you pick it up, there is no rush, it will come naturally in time. You're face has to adjust to it too. I also made the same vow, and so far I've kept to it and will never go back to cartidge. Good luck pal.

Re: The first shave!!!
Thanks gents for all of your coments and support. Im enjoying every second. It certainly is a skill but i seem to be taking to it like a duck to water... Ive probably spoke too soon here!!!
Im also really enjoying the time that i spend on my own. My life is fairly hectic so having the time out to shave is great.
I have a couple of SR that im watching on ebay... At this rate im going to need to remortgage my house!

Hey tbert, thanks for the invitation to this thread. What a great post about your first SR shave... it's very intriguing and I loved the part about the interuption... "I fold razor until she has gone." Classic!
As a noob, I think it's very brave of you to shun all disposables from now on. I don't think I'll be so brave.
I ordered my SR and strop today. They should be here next week. I'm using my last disposable this week. I wonder if I'll be able to fight the urge to get another 5-pack.
Anyway, enjoy andBackroads... Nature's Race Track

Re: The first shave!!!
No problem hiplainsdrftr! Glad to see another noob here too.
Ive tried to set some ground rules with the better half... Like dont disturb when shaving or even breathe near me... Her response almost every time is 'hurry up i need the toilet'... I think im goimg to buy her some woman sized nappies... Ha ha ha.
Thanks for your comments about my first shave. I just thought someone out there might take something from it.
As soon as that razor touched my face it felt right and i lnew steaight away that its the way i wanted to go so the house has now been emptied of disposables (other than a lady shave for my partner).
Let us know how your first shave goes and if i can be of any help in any way give me a shout.
Enjoy your evening Sir!!!

I too have been lucky enough to go from cartidge to SR without having to go back. But there is nothing wrong with finishing a shave off with your regular shaver as you go through the transition. Remember, its just learning the muscle memory and then it becomes 2nd nature. I'm still no where near perfect yet, but I'm down to around 10mins for two passes, and 15 for 3. And dont forget the pre-shave strop, lathering up with the brush, drying the razor and I also like to give a quick strop on completion. You will get quicker, but let it come naturally, then it becomes really satisfying. It is peaceful and something to look forward to each day. Have fun!
