Thanked: 580My first convert? My youngest boy!
I had a bet with my youngest son that if he could shave with one of my cut-throats, without cutting himself, he could have it. After lathering himself up, he gingerly ran the blade over his face, he wanted that razor, i guided him as best as i knew how. He shaved his whole face, there were whiskers in the lather, no blood, no burn, and a smile from ear to ear. Did i win? did i lose? I lost a razor, but won a moment i will never forget. I was so proud of him, even if he had nicked himself, he would have got the razor. I was never shown how to shave, so never taught any of my boys. I realise now it is an important part of growing up that has been taken away by our consumer orientated need for instant solutions to lifes little problems, the dreaded cartridge. Two sons to go, and already five grandsons, who knows how many more? i will do my best to teach them all one day. Without this website, this would not have happened, so a huge thank you to all who make this place possible, and all the like-minded folk on here. Grazor.

Thanked: 485That's cool. The whole self sufficiency thing is a strong magnet for me.
Passing on this art to your kids is really, really cool and really fundamental. I mean 'fundamental' in the sense of really basic fatherly love and care. I taught my oldest son maybe six month's ago, and won't forget it. What joy can a father get from recommending a plastic thingy from the supermarket, even if it COMES to that?
A father gets joy from overseeing, teaching and guiding a rite of passage, and a rite of passage rarely come wrapped in cellophane with a brand name.
Cool post.
CarlStranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 58That's great! My son is only 9 and I can't wait to introduce him to his first razor. His mom is a little apprehensive, but then again, it's really not her concern, is it?

That is awesome. My one regret with having only girls is not being able to pass this down. I do have a couple nephews, however, who will get the benefits of my experience, if they want. Congrats!

That's pretty cool. Hope he likes his prize and takes good care of it.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?
