    Default Finally Got It

After about 3 months and a lot of nicks later, I finally got the ATG pass on my neck. I've been doing 2 WTG passes, with dismal results. So today before I left for work, I decided to give it another shot. I changed from my usual grip and actually held it a little more limp than normal. Super light touch, I didn't even feel the razor on my neck. And guys, the results were great. Next is the chin. I think I'll practice on the neck for another month before I try ATG on my chin though.

Congratulations on your progress. You mention WTG, but have you tried XTG on your face and chin?

Good to hear. Yes, holding the razor tightly causes your forearm muscles to contract more; whiiiiiiich causes your hand to apply more pressure to stabilize what it is you're grasping, in this case the razor. Keep that grip easy, and you are going on the downward slope. Good luck!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

The hair on my cheeks go north to south until I get around my nose, then it starts to turn towards my ears. So I follow the grain all the way on my first pass, then the second pass I stay north to south, so that's kinda XTG. Today I tried it on my lip and chin and it worked better. AGT it very hard to do on my chin. My razors try to grab my hairs, but only when I do my chin. It shaves smoothly when I do my neck.

WTG, hope your get your chin figured out, and I have the same issue where my chin wants to grab the razor and don't have enough extra skin there to stretch it to a more convenient shaving location.

Against the grain! XTG is across the grain, whereas WTG is with the grain. The ATG is done (usually) after a WTG pass. It clears up the laid-over stubble from the first pass. Seems the hardest to learn. All beards are different and hairs grow in different directions. Just rub the old beard with your palm. The direction of most resistance will be ATG!

Against The Grain - shaving against the direction of the beard's growth

EDIT: Wow Bart, your Dogfather is quick on the draw!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
