    Default Tunisian Shave

found this video at shavemyface forums, they didn't know why the barber does what he does either. (they say it's already been documented but I can't find it)

Synopsis: Guy gets a straight razor shave by a barber and at the end the barber goes over his face with tooth-floss thread??! Anybody got any ideas as to why?

It's a depilatory technique, to remove any loose hairs that the shave might have missed.

how does it work? I mean you can't just remove your hairs by running a thread over them??

I only heard about it but I'm not sure how it works.

The thread is made of two strands, warped in a spiral. On both ends they are simultaneously stretched and released to make the spiral twirl and untwirl, catching hairs between strands as it does that, and pulling them out of their roots. It's an Eastern depilatory technique.

They do it all over the Middle East.

Walking into a barber shop in the Middle East is like going back 100 years in this country. They lounge around, shoot the breeze, offer you coffee, and you can get a great straight shave.

I had some great shaves in Spain and Morocco, all old world traditional barbershop style. It's a shame that the traditional $5 straight shaves have nearly disappeared, replaced by $50 spa shaves.

Most of the barbers in Morocco offer the string shave. It's used to touch up eyebrows or catching those stragglers from a reg. shave. Nenad's pretty much explained the technique.

$50 for a shave?! That better come with sexual gratification of some sort as well!

I believe that The Art of Shaving barbershops start at around $50 or so. And no, they don't come with a happy ending.
