Thanked: 8More nicks on second pass?
I've been at exclusive SR8 shaving for five months now and think I'm about on track. I get shaves equal to or better than I got before my new adventure and have way more fun. I have only twice gotten a cut sufficient to require use of a styptic pencil. I do get the occasional minor nick that stops bleeding on its own, and quickly. Here's the thing I've noticed: if I get any nick at all it seems more likely to happen on my second pass. I wondered if it was because I was speeding up a bit or had lost some focus, so have tried deliberately to slow down and remain focused. Still happens but minor and uncommon. But my question is...have any of the rest of you noted an increase in nicks on your second pass? Just wondered.

Though I am very new to straight shaving, I have caught myself putting the razor on an angle as I move it accross for my second pass, maybe when you go across the blade has the toe ahead/behind the rest of the blade. Just a thought I know everytime I nick myself it is due to the angle that the blade is in. I work a lot slower and make sure to keep the razor as straight as possible.

yes with both my straight (I'm still new) and my DE. I rarely get a nick on the first pass - always on the second or third. I figured it's because I'm trying to get closer with those passes but I don't know.

More nicks on second pass?
Nope, no nicks on first or second pass. Think the problem when you nick your self on the second is that you go to fast or to many presseure. Or whit the straight te wrong angle.

Now that you mention it, yes, I do have more of a tendency to nick on my second or third pass. I think for me, its a combination of trying to shave the last bit of beard very closely and not reapplying enough lather.
Interesting observation.
