Razor not sharp enough or what? Help!!
I've been shaving for a couple months now. I shave about once a week or so. The razor was honed very well when I got it. Recently, my shaves haven't been as easy in terms of cutting my whiskers. My beard is pretty coarse and thick, and since I only shave once a week or so, its decent length each time. I'd say close to 1/4 in. or less. Anyways, its been a bit painful on my first pass or WTG. I never get any nicks or irritation anymore, and in the end my face is quite smooth. I always do a second pass ATG or XTG.
I thought that maybe my razor needed a refresh, so I ordered some Crox paste, and stropped my razor on that yesterday. Just 10 laps. Of course, I finished it off with the leather. Tonight, when I shaved it was pretty much the same feeling as before... I'm very sure that I never rolled my edge from stropping because of using too much pressure... at least I hope I didn't.
I'm very frustrated, and I'm just going to use my safety razor till I figure this out. My safety is so much smoother and easier/effortless to shave with, and that's what I'm hoping to get back with my straight. I know it should be even sharper and smoother that a safety. It definitely was much better when I first started using it. Maybe get it honed again, and see if it wad a result of too much pressure during stropping?
What do you guys think is the issue? Maybe a straight razor is not good for my beard type? I will gladly answer and questions you guys have. Thank you!Last edited by dorknight; 11-29-2012 at 03:16 AM.
