I did it with my big omega pro boar brush. It really helped to get it broken in.

When I was a just starting to shave teenager my dad taught me how. He was a follower of the leave the lather/soap on the brush method. I followed his direction for many years before I switched to canned foam (Edge gel). At some point I moved to the cheapest stuff on the market - $1.00 per can plain foam. The reality is that a canned foam is fast. My whole daily morning pre-work bathroom is under a half hour (shower, shave, brush/comb hair, brush teeth, dry out ears). I've been using one of the plastic handle multi blade razors (I switched around a lot but found less blades is better than more) for about 15 years now, having moved from my safety razor when blades started to become hard to find and very expensive, where I live in New York. I am now in the process of going back to a brushed soap lather, but will have to determine if it is an increase in time allocation. If so I might have to stick with canned foam and only do brush on weekends or days when I don't have to go into the office. I haven't read much on the forum to convince me that a dry brush is a plus in any way (if anything it is another time consumer).
