    Hey gents here is a beautiful cv heljestrand no 4 and I'm not sure of the scales any help would be great

    I've got one too. Good razor. Looks like the same scales as mine.

    I was mistaken, mine is a # 24 and the scales appear to be black plastic.

    I think it's plastic, I never saw a Helje in bakelite (of course there could be ones with it anyway) ... Rub them with your fingers and if there's a nasty smell it's prob bakelite (plastic should also feel more flexible and bakelite stiff, when aged it should be rather hard).

    Bakelite tends to turn a greenish color if it is old and has been exposed to light. I have a Wosty with bakelite and one side is greenish and the other jet black. The razor must have sat mark side up for years and that side turned color from light exposure. They can be buffed black again, like a tobacco pipe stem.

    Jim, might you meen hard Rubber? If like pipe stems toothpaste works great.
