this feels natural
From the long laps on the stropp (that Wullie talked me through) to the short strokes on my face this process feels really natural. I'm definitely not a pro. I've only started on one side of my face but I'm using Sheffield Steel, other great products and it seems to be going well.
I started with my right cheek last night with my 9/8 GB. I noticed that I didn't remove alot of hair but I was also happy that I didn't cut myself either. Then I watched another vid on youtube specifically with someone shaving with a 10/8s blade 10/8s blade
After the youtube vid and while watching some Breaking Bad I stropped up my 8/8 WM Hargreaves and had a go with that on my right cheek from my sideburns to jawline today. Better technique, more hair on the blade. I can hear the hairs popping but I have to remember to keep my 38 year old skin taught. I got some of my chin but I felt it pulling so I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY!
Between the 2 blades so far I like the Hargreaves better but take that with a whole salt lick since this is my 2nd try. So I have 30 some odd razors hanging out at my house that I want to try. I thought I was gonna wait for a whole restoration job but F that. I do need to send one out for proper honing so I can see the difference between me stropping and a proper edge.
I have to use fragrance free products on my face because I have sensitive skin but the Kiss My Face stuff seems to cake up and it dries out my face. It was between KMF or the Mitchells Wool Fat and I went with the KMF. I didn't do the hot shower first or hot towel on my face...I never shower...LOL so maybe that had something to do with it.

no really though i read about pre shave prep and thought it really cant be that important ( more hard headed then anything and impatient) but it does make a major difference ...

What will we do for fun now? Shave again darn it!
Ok quiet down folks!
2nd shave today. I found another razor to shave with...Hurray! One that I remembered was honed before I bought it off of the bay and I clearly see the difference. I did my 2nd and 3rd pass on the right side, my chin, my left side and most of my neck. The blade flowed smooth and there was no pulling or tugging. Going around the "ball" of the chin wasn't tough at all. I could hear the blade as it contoured around my skin. I don't know the direction that my hair grows yet but every stroke if I remember correctly was a downward pass, including my neck and it was successful.
You really can't see what you miss till you wash your face off. I reapplied lather I think 2 or 3 times. My face feels really smooth. I am very happy now!
What was the razor you ask? A 15/16 Joseph Smith & Sons Celebrated Razor. Now I can officially post in the shave of the day section...again
Since the Joseph Smiths has a proper edge and does not have a city stamp I know that its old and a great shaver. I think I'll stick with this one for now but there are so many to choose from.
Here we go
