Thanked: 14Shaving observation
As a fairly new SR shaver, my only experience was shaving with a full hollow ground blade. This morning I tried a blade that I bought from ebay and honed. The grind of the blade was considerably thicker than the full hollow blades. Maybe a 3/4 grind or so. What I noticed was that It made no sound as it shaved. The full hollow ground blades kind of make a soft scratching sound as it cuts the beard, but the thicker blade didn't. Initially, I was concerned that the razor wasn't cutting but it gave a wonderful smooth shave. Variety is part of the fun of all this!

Jmac, What you describe is the difference in feedback, common to their respective grinds. Don't know what the 2nd razor was, but some heavy grinds still give good feedback, many do not. The heavy ground sheffields seem the most silent. How the edge is finished can affect the amount of feedback also. Your description of the audible feedback is very good. Others have described it as the sound of a sharp kitchen knife that's spreading butter on toast. There is also a slight tactile feedback - like a vibration that you can feel in the shank as you shave. Some guys like the 'silent' shaver. I like it better when the blade talks back. Either way, you can get fine shaves w/ them.

Thanked: 14Pinklather,
Thank you for your reply. Just to let you know how accurate your response was, I took out the razor and read the information on the stem, it reads:

SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND
Not much of a hollow in the grind, but hones nicely!
I like the description of the knife on the toast better than mine.

In general heavy grind: quiet shave
Hollow grind: acoustic shaveShaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?
