Thanked: 0Does anyone recommend this Dovo razor?
I'm in the market looking for a good straight razor. I'm a newbie and what might look good to my eyes may turn out to be a poor razor so I thought I would ask for advice. From what I've read the pins and the scales have to be a certain way but honestly I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for. I went on to a recommended vendor site after being told to keep away from ebay and I've found a razor I really like. The scale isn't bulky, the blade seems to be a decent size, the colours are right, it looks sleek and very sexy but my question is, is this a good razor?

Thanked: 1195I'd certainly not hesitate to recommend Dovo. Just be sure it's shave ready; if it's not then send it out.

I have the same thing in a 6/8's version. Needless to say, it is still one of my favorite shavers! I'd recommend it, provided the edge comes ready to shave. It was my first new razor I bought, great shaver!

It is! I have the very same razor, it was my first straight razor and it's a great one.
As already suggested, send it out for professional honing.--

A lot of people here had a BQ as their First-Step razor, myself included. Well made, no frills workhorse.
Hard to find much of an argument against having one.

Thanked: 0There is only one problem. It appears all the vendors are all sold out at the moment.

I have a Dovo 5/8 half-hollow Best Quality razor that I purchased from Superior Shave in USA. Though I've got another, nicer and defnintely more expensive semi-custom, and a kamisori, this Dovo is my best shaver. I'm still relatively new to straight shaving and to honing. I got this razor during a scratch-and-dent sale becaues it had a few superficial stains on the blade. Because it was heavily discounted, it did not come honed -- it had whatever edge the factory left on it. I bought it, honed it, stropped it, and shaved with it. It's light, nimble, and smooth. I highly recommend it.
Cheers,
Jack

Thanked: 194Dovo razors are excellent. I own quite a few and they are my favourite shavers. My favourite would have to be my Dovo Forestall purchased from SRD and honed by the Master!

Just introduced myself to the forum but I also have a Dovo silversteel as my first and only razor. I bought in a small shop in Antwerpen - Belgium and it was ready to go. I am very happy with it.
