Thread: Styptic killing lather?

Gents, has anyone else noticed that trying to lather over an area where you've used a styptic pencil is an act of futility? I nicked the corner of my mouth today, rubbed the styptic pencil on it, then rinsed and re-lathered. When I hit that area it literally killed my lather. I'm thinking the residue left behind by the pencil acts against the lather? Nick

Yes I have noticed that to my guess would be that is acts as a drying compound and sucks the moisture out of the lather like it would the cut just keeping the blood from coming out.

Never tried it myself. Even if I nick myself, I would relather and finish the shave before applying any styptic.

Simple, use styptic pencil after completing the shave

Styptic and Alum blocks both chemically break down the soap. This does offer some good qualities though. The good, rub your finger on an alum block so that it doesn't slip when you are stretching skin. I have gotten to the point that after I use, and rinse, Alum at the end of the shave I re-lather so that I can put some of the good stuff that my expensive lather has in it back into my skin.

I have been doing that as well, rubbing some lather in after the shave. Especially when I use my MWF. Thanks for all the responses and Happy Shaving--N
