Got a new Hart - and I'm so sad!
Hey guys,
Today arrived my new Hart razor I've wanted for a long time.
I was so excited to shave with it until I actually did! The place that sold it assured me that it would be shave ready. In fact, this place apparently sends their blades for honing to the same guys. Well, there is just no way. I shaved with it and it pulled like crazy. I noticed after my first WTG pass there was quite a bit of stubble left. So I went back to my Dovo and cleaned up. The Dovo cleaned up what the Hart left behind.
After the shave with my Dovo I tried the hanging hair test. I could cut with the Dovo just fine but with the same hair, it would not cut with the Hart.
Has anyone had experience like this with Hart? I feel the razor is good but it just needs to be honed. I intend to send it to Lynn I think but I expected the Hart to be ready to roll!
Would really like to hear about similar experiences... Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your experience with your new Hart Steel razor. You are not alone with this happening. Sending the razor to Lynn will be worth the time it takes and you will be glad you did it. I have had to tune up several new Hart razors of mine and that being done I enjoy shaving with them. They are very good razors.

Thanked: 36I've had my Hart for about a year and had the exact same experience as you. I sent it to Lynn and after I got it back, it quickly became my favorite razor- that is until I bought a 8/8 W&B; and then a Sprecher custom, etc, etc....
It is an excellent shaver once honed properly and you can't go wrong sending it to Lynn.
Regards,
Jason

What Iz6 said. I think you'll really like it once the edge is as it should be. And with your choice of honemeisters, there will be no doubt about the edge. Enjoy!

Well I guess that's good. I always wanted this razor. I guess I don't really understand how the company can advertise it as "shave ready" when it's so abundantly clear that it's not. I mean do they want to turn customers away?

Both of my Hart steel razors came what I would describe as "almost shave ready." They were darn close to being shave ready but not quite there. Don't worry Hart Steel razors are great when they're honed up properly. I took mine to a norton 8000 then my thuringian to get it the rest of the way there and it made my arm hair explode off my arm when I was done testing it let alone giving me a great close shave.

Each of us has a definition of "shave ready", "bbs" etc... You have purchased a nice razor. Have it honed up and you'll enjoy it for many years. Don't be disappointed since many "shave ready" razors are not up to SRP standards. I have a few customs that came " shave ready" with an edge I just did not Ike. Once they were honed to my standard, they were wonderful to use.
Enjoy your new razor and use it in good health.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

My wife bought mine from classic edge and it came shave ready, and it's still good since Christmas even if I shave with it at least four times a week, my dovo on the other hand was not and I sent it to Phil to make it as sharp as the hart.

Thanked: 247Mine came with a buttery smooth edge that became the standard for my honing. I later dropped it and had to re-hone it
I later bought another that was pre-owned, so I honed it.
I will tell you this, when properly honed, they (at least the two I have) are fantastic shavers and hold their edge very well.
I wish you success with yours...and hope Hart gets these issues under control (It seems we have heard a few of these stories recently).

Thanked: 247Yeah, at first it seemed like a lot of people with low experience levels saying they were having problems. So I was just dismissing it. But it seems there are a few members with a few years experience saying the same thing. Interesting. Lucky for me the Harts are well out of my range.
