Thanked: 6Any Stainless lovers in the house?
I've seen a few threads about stainless blades and comparing them to carbon steel. Generally I've seen the consensus around here to be more in favor of a carbon steel or that there is no difference. I'm wondering if there is anyone else here who does notice a difference??
I've used the different makes and grinds but I have found my favorite razors that give me the smoothest shave are my 7/8 Friodur, 7/8 Sansoucci and my 6/8 folding kamisori... All three are stainless and generally don't need a mid-shave stropping to keep it going.
My disclaimer here is that I am shaving my head so there is a lot more surface area to shave and I generally put more of a strain on the blade but I have still found that my Friodur and Sansoucci (both honed by me) have a longer lasting edge and shave smoother than ones I've sent off to a honemeister (not knocking the honemeisters, its actually a difference in the steel for me)
Anyone else out there have similar experiences? Opposites?
Obligatory pics:
The far left blade is made from Asami Stainless and I generally use it for my face and touchups. The Friodur and Sansoucci and for the head.

Thanked: 580Epic fails with my stainless blades so far, probably more to do with my lack of experience, but shaving the head with one? You da man.

Thanked: 3226I don't shave my head, nature is slowly taking care of that. I do have 3 different brands of stainless razors and all are fine shavers.

dont shave my head (yet) but i like my Friodur 6/8 and Boker 5/8 !!!
i usually shave every other day cause i dont have to shave at all but shaved back to back days cause i just got my Friodur back in action with some new scales earlier today !!! o how i missed that blade !!!
but in reality just today was the first time i noticed any difference between carbon and stainless and that was on the hone .. cant explain it really but it just felt A LOT different then all the carbons ive honed up lately , so hopefully im getting enough experience that maybe ill notice something while shaving ..lol

Thanked: 6Thanks! There are a few guys on here that shave their heads. Some out of necessity and some because they like it. I fall into the latter category.
Gorgeous!! I'm definitely jealous of your 7-day set
The only stainless razors I really really want now are a Friodur with the silver inlay on the scales and a Wusthof 7/8. Saw one on ebay but it went for more than my budget

Thanked: 270It's not really a 7-day set (no days of the week on the spine). I got it in the Classifieds from one of our fellow members (Jazor) in November. I've become a fan of the 5/8 size and really enjoy them. It's about time now for my first re-honing (hopefully just a minor touch-up).
Thank you for the compliments.
