Default First shave with a real straight

I finally got two of my first real straights today - a Filarmonica (which got sent to Lynn) and a Carl Schmidt Blue Steel from Shavingshop (w/his honing too). I havent got my strop yet, but I couldnt wait to shave with it. Now, I was a little hesitant as the only straight experience I have is with a Feather that I really never took the time to use properly, hence I cut the crap out of my face with it. I have no idea if the Carl Schmidt was sharp or not, but it seemed to pull as I started the stroke, then smooth out some. A strop would probably help here I shaved my cheeks and jaw line - not the closest shave, but did pretty good. I was amazed at the feedback of the cutting and the razor was much more forgiving than the feather. I hated the feeling with the feather that if my concentration/form slipped just a little, a cut was coming. Shaving with this razor was enjoyable. I cant wait to get the Filarmonica back from lynn.

That's one of the big reasons I prefer the straight over the feather. I'm not a coffee-drinker, so 6am was just too early in the morning for maintaining the perfect technique needed for feather happiness.

WTG MG! Just wait until you get a nice hanger and develop your technique. No other shaving method can compare.
