I am not saying that you did dull your razor by stropping, only that it is one possibility. Do your other razors shave well and you only have the trouble with one? There are other possibilities like zib has said. Really hard to say anything concrete long distance and not being actually there. The best would be if someone in your area from this forum could actually meet and mentor you. I would not immediately get any re honed until you can pin down the actual cause of your problem.

Thanked: 3225I may well not be your stropping. Try the other razors and see if they are good to go. If they are then it is something else again. Just a process of elimination. The only thing I can say is that stropping appears deceptively simple. At least I thought so but it took a while to get good and consistent at it. I am still working on that.

Well Bob I have just been watching Chimensch's Shaving Video again and I took a closer look at his stropping I see he stars from the top of the strop and go down where I start at the bottom of the strop and go up does that make any difference?

Thanked: 3225No, I don't think where you start makes a difference. I do it backwards too by starting going away. I just found that more natural for me.

Usually when I've have had Glen Mercurio or Lynn Abrams or others hone my razors, they say you do not need to strop it before the the first shave after honing. After that first post-honed shave you start the stropping process.
Maybe you should write or call the guy who honed your razors and ask him about it. How many did you get honed? You say they all are not shaving well, right? And you have been shaving and stropping for a few months at least to know the angle and pressure idea, I assume.
Have you tried the razors that weren't recently honed?

I would say that you dulled the razor by stropping it incorrectly if the razor was truly shave ready when you got it back. I would send one of the razors in to Lynn and have him hone that one and shave with it without stropping as soon as you get it back. Then you will know for sure. You can dull a razor pretty easy if your stropping technique is bad...

I think it would be hard to damage an edge by stropping. I keep reading about cupping of the strop and such, but I can't see how it's possible if you keep the spine flat on the strop.
When I first started stropping I'd take the whole razor off the strop and put it back down to continue the lap and didn't have a problem with the edge.
I feel like we need a detective to figure this out.
1) The OP hasn't had trouble with damaging edges with stropping in the past. Yes or No.
2) The razors were honed by a reputable honemeister. Yes or No.
3) The OP has been able to get a decent shave with a straight in the past. Yes or No.
