I'm not so much worrying about atg as the lack of good shave. If I can get it with two passes believe you me I will

for right now I'm gonna stick with developing my technique in every way possible and hopefully Ill keep getting better and better shaves.

I'm a newbie, about 20 shaves in. I've been attempting ATG the last few shaves and while not BBS I am making better progress each time I shave.

One tip that helped was mapping the face to make sure I am truly going ATG. My beard actually grows in a diagonal direction, not up and and down so once I switched the direction I saw MUCH better results.

yeah my beard grows backways, forways, frontways, sideways and wonkaways. and I actually figured out thats what the problem is I wasn't actually every hitting against the grain on about 75 % of my cheeks.

but I have a map now and Im going to follow it. my shave today was great I didn't even have to clean it up with a DE

If your WTG and XTG passes are not efficient, the ATG will likely not go well. The ATG should be removing just the bare minimum of stubble. Also, when I do ATG, the spine of the blade is touching, to almost touching my skin. The angle is very steep and I stretch my skin to the extreme. I advise you not to do an ATG until you have mastered the sawing motion with your WTG and XTG passes. In fact, once you master that, you may find ATG to be unnecessary. Happy shaves.
