Grandfather's Steel.
As many here know, I found SRP because I inherited my grandfather's Wade & Butcher from the early 1800's. It needed cleaning, so GOOGLE brought me to SRP.
I told myself that I would not shave with it until I was good enough to hone it myself. It's been a little over 2 years now, so I took it out of storage tonight & honed it. I shaved with it, then wrote this silly poem. I'm happy & can't really sleep now, so here it is:
Grandfather's Steel
You were found in a cabinet, among memories of old;
Some china, some silk, all with stories to be told.
You lay in a box covered with cotten linen.
Your blade showed years of waiting,
so I sent you to a Master, so care could be given.
Tonight was the night I put your Sheffield steel to stone.
I polished your edge with a loom of leather,
some of the finest known.
Being of proud English steel,there's a friend you should meet;
a cream of rose scent,from a man on Old Bond Street.
Now I must stop our journey and put you away.
Tonight you did your job well; I know grandfather would agree.
I will come visit you again, with my son, on some other day.

And how was the shave?
It must be a great feeling to have a piece of family history to cary along and pass on

The shave was great, but I could be a little biased.

Thanked: 43Wow!
Congratulations!
Patience is your virtue!
There are not many of us that could hold back that long. I for one, would have folded in a few months.
If your grandfather were here he would be extremely pleased with you.
I too would be a bit biased and that is as it should be.

Love the poem. Although my ancient W&B is not from the family, I feel the same about it. I think about the lives it touched. It will be used by someone else when my journey is done.
