Shaving the neck area
Hi gents, I've got a little problem that maybe you all can help me with. I'm going on six months of shaving with a straight razor. my face goes north to south all around my whole face and I can do every pass on my face- wtg, xtg, atg- however my beard on my neck and my chin goes east to west, or west to east however you want to figure it out. I can get a with the grain pass and a whole against the grain pass, but due to the size of the blade I cannot get and across the grain pass, therefore I cannot get a bbs shave. even if I took my head so far back that I can't even see the mirror I can't get that pass to go across. Does anyone here have any advice on how to possibly get a cross the grain pass on your neck and chin? right now what I'm doing is I'm finishing up with a double edge safety razor, but I'd really like to be able to do a3 pass with a straight razor any ideas? thanks in advance for all the responses if any!

Hi Anthogia, I basically have the same issue as you. I just do a WTG (with some ATG here and there for chin etc) and the ATG for the whole face and neck. I find that I get an acceptably close shave with this method but not completely BBS all over which I guess is what you are looking for. I guess I am not really helping you out with my answer but just thought I would throw in my thoughts on the issue. I t seems so easy when others do it on youtube but when you get n front of the mirror and bring the razor to your face you think "how the hell did he do that??" lol

I'm a two year 'veteran' and still improving. I'm not saying that you will ever get to where you want to be but I class myself as fairly ambidextrous so, if you're like me then there still lots of improvement to come.

Thanked: 3I'm no expert but this is what works for me. on the XTG I can take and pull the skin tight enough that it sort of lifts the whiskers immediately on my jaw line up so I can include them in my XTG pass on the side of my face. I notice then that XTG isn't nearly as difficult because you don't have that concave area to shave immediately under your jaw line. You can just get the remaining neck area with two ATG passes instead. Jeez I wish I could make it read a little more sensibly. Because I know that with the XTG pass it just feels like your blade needs to be shaped like a samurai sword.

Thanked: 3OH one more thing this might sound a little funny but I find that with the XTG pass its useful to pull your ear to the back of your head and work the blade in from the front of your ear gets the skin right there nice and tight.
