Cold water and blade maintenance
When I read the following thread, I went on and began using the cold water prep:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...orst-ever.html
My face is doing better since (really a bad combination of heavy beard and really sensitive skin), so thanks to all of you who reported on your experience. I told about the cold water prep to the guy who got me interested first in straight shaving, he tried and liked it. Some weeks passed, and that friend of mine noticed that his current and preferred blade (Dovo BQ) seemed to take less time to lose sharpness than when he used the hot water prep.
So, I have a question to those who took the plunge and kept going the cold water prep route: is it possible ? This particular friend of mine have been straight shaving for two years, so we might guess his technique is up to par on all aspects of straight shaving, preventing us to diagnose a lack of technique. Any light on this "problem" is welcome ... As for my own experience, since I'm only five months old in the sport, I can't really assess the "hows and whys" of his apparent misfortune (other than telling him his blade might need honing).
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

No idea about that. I don't only use cold water prep. My shave is cold water from start to finish. I personally have not noticed any deleterious effect on any of my razors.

I am with jimmy on this one. My shave is cold start to finish and I haven't noticed a difference.
