    Default Shave Quality

How come I always get a better , closer , cleaner shave when I do not shave for 2 to 3 days < allowing long beard whisker growth, as opposed towhen I save daily I can never get a close of a shve ? I prep using hot towels and I use a glycerine based shaving soap. Is It becuase the beard gets softer when allowed to grow out ?

It used to feel that way for me too when I first started out with straights.
Many experienced shavers also report this.
For me though, I feel the number of days between shaves are of little to no significance, other than the shear fun of mowing down more hair

I seem to get the best shave around the 4 day mark. After about 4 days the whiskers are a little too long to get a smooth shave. Odd, but that's how it works for me!

It's a common comment. When your beard is longer the razor has more to bite into. That's the usual reason given anyway.

Yeah, that's my theory. I'll get a smoother shave if my whiskers are a little longer, though I'm sure exfoliation plays a roles too.

    Gentlemen,
I am not sure if this is just perception, as I, too, sometimes feel I get a better shave with a two or three-day old beard. Then again, a one-day old beard or a three-day old beard shouldn't make any difference to a good razor in capable hands.

I think it is because your face is tougher, nothing to do with beard.

Back during the Dark Ages when I didn't think there was an alternative to multiblade razors, I wouldn't shave on weekends if I could possibly avoid it.

Straight razor shaver and loving it!
