Oh I agree mate such a shop would be awesome, but sadly I don't think the economics would work out. You'd have to charge a huge amount per head just to break even, and there aren't many people who would be able to afford the prices, even occasionally let alone every day.

I guess that's the reason the traditional barbers shops are dying out.

It's probably worth going for a shave at Trumpers or Trufitt & Hill if you're in London, just for the experience and to say you've done it once. When I was in Trumpers there was a politician having a shave and a haircut there and he looked pretty good in his suit when he walked out. The shaving lessons I'd say aren't so much of a 'must have', Lynn's DVD and the advice on here are far better.

You only have to look at the cars parked in that area of London to see why Trumpers is still there. There were brand new examples of Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, the new Bentley, Rolls Royce, and a convertable Aston Martin Vanquish all parked up neaby along the curb. Oh how the othe half lives!

The place I want to visit is the guy Lynn was talking about when he visted Rome, who shaves people like the Pope, and the PM.

I agree with you too Iwan. Damn economics!! Prices for a luxury shave in bristol were £25. I'll keep working on it.......!!

Actually i'm in london in a couple of weeks so if you reccomend a shave there i might compare it to what i'm capable of!!

I checked all this out with my local authority. (Penwith District Council) Cornwall England

    My Question

"Are there any health and safety, legal, licensing or certification issues related to me shaving the general public in my barbershop"?

    The answer

"NO! you can do whatever you like. Just remember that hygiene is a very important factor. Make sure your Public Liabilty Insurance covers you to practice shaving."

That was it. I couldn't believe it.

Obviously I will be using disposable blades, towels are to be boil washed, the razor will be sterilised in Barbicide and stored in a UV steriliser between clients as will the brush (I still can't believe we are allowed to re-use brushes) , styptics will be liquid and applied using cotton buds, no hard soaps just cream from a tube.

It's common sense really. You can do an 'invasive treatment' health and safety test but this is more for tattooing and electrolysis.

Forgot to say that habia.org do a shaving course but you have to already have done the first part of the barber training. I am currently trying to convince them to help me along without doing the basic barber course.
