Thanked: 1every day or every other??
I couldn't find any previous postings so I'm asking for other's experiences.
I just shaved yesterday and again today. My razor is sharp and my pre-shave prep was the same both days. Tonight the shave was still very smooth but I was left with some razor rash and razor burn. This doesn't seem to happen if I shave every other day instead of every day. I've tried this experiment before and every time I try the same results happen: comfortable shaves when done every other day and razor rash and/or burn when done everyday.
It seems as if my hairs are not long enough after 24 hours to get easily where as if I wait at least 36 hours or 48 hours, I can shave with no problems.
What experiences do y'all have?

My experience is pretty much the same as yours - shaving off two days growth always gives me a better shave, easier, with little or no irritation.
Most of the difference is on the neck, where I'll have a tougher time getting it smooth on only one day's worth of growth, and sometimes ending up with some razor burn from working that area too hard with the blade.

Same for me.
a) I have a sensitive skine, and
b) my facial hair grows slowly.
Shaving every day gives me an irritated skin, especially on my throat and jawline.
And there is very little to shave after one day anyway.
I also have the habit of shaving in the evening so that I can take my time and enjoy it.

I too shave in the evening since switching to a straight. With my DE I couldn't have gotten away with it. My hair grows pretty fast . I shave every day and if I go all the way to BBS, when stroked against the grain, I begin to have more nicks and a some burn. I have found that I can go all the way to BBS every three days or so . On the days in between BBS shaves I will do a with the grain pass and an across the grain pass, with a little clean up in my trouble areas. I find this gives me a close shave every day with perfectly smooth days when I want them but no irritation (baring mistakes) on any of them.

Thanked: 1I've taken to showering and shaving at night as a relaxing way to end the day. A nice warm shower, a relaxing shave finished up by a good, refreshing aftershave then downstairs for a Bible study. A very nice way to end the day.
The only thing about shaving every other day is that during the off day, stubble becomes visible and I'm at work.
I think a solution is to shave every other day but if I have a special event in between go ahead and shave on the off day so I can look purdy.

Although I haven't experienced any adverse effects the few times I have shaved two days in a row, there's not much point for me. I get damn close shaves and sometimes even wait three or four days just so I can have that feeling of a fabulous shave where I'm plowing down half a weeks worth of growth.

Thanked: 369I notice irritation from everyday shaves only after I go through one of my periodic mustache or van dyke phases, and then shave one or the other off. The newly exposed area is very prone to razor burn and nicks.
After the skin toughens up again, in about a week or two, I can shave everyday without irritation.

Every Day
In the 2 weeks I've shaved with the straight, I've shaved six out of seven days, taking both Saturdays off. The first week I experienced a fair amount of burn, possibly due to taking 2 or 3 passes in my enthusiasm to learn. This past week, taking only 1 or 2 passes, the irritation is lessening (although I've nicked myself a bit more as I try taking longer, steadier passes). Hoping my skin is "toughening", since I work partly outside & it's COLD out now!
Good Luck,
Bob
