Thread: Another near wedge Brookes and Crookes

Could not resist this near wedge, a little 11/16 Brookes and Crookes in bone, I think, scales. Just gave it a quick clean and hone so we will see how she shaves in the morning.

Bone Scales Are More And More Appealing To Me As Time Goes On.... They Just Look "Clean"

Nothing not to like there. Bone, horn, or ivory are my preference. No worries over cell rot and a handy size in a wedge. The meat choppers are cool to shave with once in a while but the smaller blades are my preference for daily drivers. Nice catch Bob.

Nice catch Bob, a classic looking razor, with natural scale, a near wedge is always nice also, Enjoy that silent shaver!

Thanks for the comments guys. This is the first bone scaled razor I have and I think it is bone because I see no Schreger lines in them. The scales are otherwise as thin as my ivory scaled razor and both the bone and ivory scales have a hairline crack at the wedge pin. As a bonus it shaved well this morning but I think I will try and refine the edge a bit more.

Yea, I am just a little unsure myself if it is bone or not. It feels/looks hard and smooth like ivory and not as porous as I thought bone might be. Then there is the pins with washers too. Lastly there is this



Without being able to see Schreger lines could it be low grade ivory?

Is that Damage? normally you would see alot more of the Halversain Canals.
Ivory is Ivory,is how it is cut that that shows more of the Lines,Take it out in Bright sunlight and look at in an oblique angle, you might see more

looks like ivory to me... But I am no expert... I have made one set of ivory scales so far, and like it lo much now that alll I look for is ivory stuff.. Which has cut down my razor buying dramatically.. I have only bought two razors this year. a Bengal with ivory scales, and a Russian razor (not ivory, but I couldn't resist the price)... Ivory just classes up a razor and feels great in the hands.

took a bright light to it and could not see any lines but back light the blade is visible through the scales. I guess that is some kind of damage if it is not where blood vessels run in bone. Oh, well I'll just call them mystery scales.

Yea, I sure can understand your liking ivory for scales and looking only for that is a clever way to cut down RAD.
