Thanked: 3164Lovely score, Bob! A very unusual etch.
I haven't seen it before, but there is a thread somewhere here featuring a 'Dominion of Canada' W&B, and it shows the following close-up of the blade:
That particular blade shows the Canadian PM, John A. McDonald, b1815 d1891. He became Premier in 1857 when Canada was a Province and was Prime Minister when it became a Nation in 1867. That same year he was made Knight Commander of the Bath, hence the 'KCB' on the scroll of the razor above.
As the article says, prior to 1867 Canada was a dominion consisting of two parts, so I would have thought that the earliest date for your razor must be 1867, when it became a nation.
Regards,
Neil

The only fly in the ointment with using Confederation in 1867 as a dating tool is that prior to Confederation Upper and Lower Canada existed. OTH circa 1867-1891 seems the most reasonable guess. Now to find one of those Sir John A razors, I wish. Thanks for inspiring further RAD.

Thanked: 3164I quite agree, Bob. It is a fly in the ointment. I know that the company had a presence in America well before this and that the boom years started in the 1850s, but I still feel that your razor is later - mainly because of the design of the etch which has lost the cartouches and curlicues and fussy imaging in favour of cleaner, more modern lines. To be honest, I would really associate a design like that with the late 1870s-80s.

Thanks again, circa 1867-1891 is close enough for government work and me especially considering what you have said about the etching style.

Is the "Concave" black or is it just the lighting?
You have a great looking razor. Congrats

Thanked: 1184Nice grab. I love the unique ones myself. Not that I have seen that many but I knew the second I saw it that it was different. Keeper for sure.
