    Default Widerstrahl (my third SR)

Just got this off ebay for 30$, and i am new to SR but, i think the razor looks to be in good condition. Maybe the scales need changing or just clean em.

Any good sugestions to clean the blade? autosol? polish compound, micro mesh?

It says its a Widerstrahl 718, and that it mesures 6/8. But found it on this site and info say it is 5/8 but that is ok for me.
Anyone who got any experience with Widerstrahl? and tell me about the shave with it

Never heard of it, but it looks nice.
Cleaning doesn't look too difficult, no visible rust from what I can see. The etching will be touchy if you have to use a grit.
I would say start with a chrome polish, gently.
For the scales, clean with soap and water and then rub with a car polish/wax.
Are you going to unpin it to clean it?
If not, get a thin piece of wood, like a paint stirrer, and a piece of felt, and put the cleaning paste on that to get inside the scales.
Definitely have it honed before using. No telling if there are micro chips.

Nice razor. Looks like it has hardly been sharpened. Good luck

    Hi.
Widerstrahl razors were made by P. Hospital & Cie Thiers, France. The same manufacturer who made Le Grelots. It should be very good razor

    Maciek.
The tang is stamped Solingen. Seems odd for a French maker.

I am not going to unpin it unless if feel it is necessary. if i have to use grit, i will cover up the etching on the blade so i don't remove it. Can i use autosol on the scales also (to clean remove scratches)? i think i remember i read something about it?

Thanks for all the good info

I found this to be said on Srpwiki ''The stamp is "Widerstrahl Solingen", but according to ClassicShaving.com this is a LeGrelot brand.
It is similar in many ways to some LeGrelots, but I have not seen any hard evidence for it.''

Autosol would work ok on the blade. There is even an Autosol for plastics. I prefer polishes that are reputed to be safe for vintage plastics. I've used Autosol on bakelite but not on celluloid. The Novus 123 system claims to be safe with cell & bakelite.

Well, here is another example of "solingen" razor made by that maker:

Interesting mispelling in a word "sthal" on the blade (last picture), it should be "stahl" obviously.

Brucke was definately a trademark of Pierre Hospital (LeGrelot maker), according to the Thiers ofiice of trademarks in France, registered in 1960.

Widerstrahl is another story. It is not a P. Hospital trademark but interestingly its from another french razor maker "Champredon Cognet" in 1954.

And again in 1968 by Marc Champredon.

That said some mentions that P. Hospital purchase the trademark from Champredon but there is no official evidence of that from the trademark registration office.
