Found a hole in the corner
I love finding hole in the corner places. Today's was a 2500 sq ft antique shop run by a older barber. In it I found about 8 razor boxes and this 6" x 1.25" coticule. The coticule side is only about 3/16" thick. Lapping it didn't take long but oddly the center was high on the coticule side but low on the reverse. I didn't want to lose much thickness so I stopped lapping when most of the center was flat. About 3/4" on each end is still low, I will just have to live with it.
This is my only coticule. First impressions are that it is finer than my cnat but coarser than Grossular Garnet. I plan to soon hone with it to try the finish it leaves.
As purchased
After lapping and testing
I didn't get to talk to the gent running the shop much because they actually locked me in. But he noticed my car out front and came and found me.He was happy to make a sale, and I was happy to give him my money.

The verdict is in
...It is a finisher.
First half of the shave test, just off the coticule no stropping. Edge was sharp but just short of perfectly shave ready. One pass result: DFS.
Second half of the shave test, 100 passes on plain leather. Edge became wonderfully shave ready. One pass result: a slightly better DFS. Full shave result: two pass with water only touchup BBS

Thanked: 1185Nice going. Good thing you didn't walk to the store :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

It certainly would have made an interesting entry on the police blotter.
