A traditional design is one that looks like a traditional straight razor like:

Your blade reminds me more of a Japanese carpenter knife with a tang, it's just different...not wrong. How can it be wrong if it will take an edge and give you a quality shave?

The reason you are being questioned is that you are new to this sport and may or may not know what a shave ready edge is all about. You may have gotten lucky and received a truly shave ready blade, you may not have and just don't know any better. You see, most custom razors start out close to 10x that price. I couldn't even make that razor for that amount in materials, much less the time invested in it.

My and most others concern for ANY new person to this sport is that they jump right in before they have educated themselves. Most all who jump in like this pick up a razor that is not "worthy" of being called a straight razor, I.E.: won't take or hold a truly shave ready edge. My first razor was one from Straight Razor Designs, so it was honed by quite possibly the most experienced honer in the world. I later added to my razor collection and guess what, I bought some junk that wouldn't/couldn't take a razors edge. A razor's edge and a knife's edge is very, very different. There is a seller from around that area you purchased your blade from that makes razor looking objects...so our concern is for you, your face, and your future in wet shaving....we want it to be a enjoyable experience.

Ok I appreciate that. From what I have read it seems shave ready but I dont know for sure. And I don't think he knows at what price point to put his products. He is fairly new. If I had decided that I was going to get a straight I would have bought one I was sure of. But I bought that one and the interest grew from that. Again it seems shave ready but I might send it to be honed in any case.

I'll tell you what, cover the return shipping and I will test shave with it and if it isn't shave ready...I will make it shave ready as long as it can handle the edge. If not, I will return your razor and send you a loaner so that you will know what a shave ready razor is all about. If interested, pm me and I will give you my address.
