Thanked: 9WH Morley "Damascus" & George Wostenholm Pipe Razor
Gday!
Have finally realized what everyone talks about now with RAD, am still learning and im scouring sites for old blades! Iv now chalked up 4, 2 shave readys and 2 restores! These are the latest
A WH Morley 3/4 with "DAMASCUS" etched on the blade and cutouts along the spine (if anyone knows anything about this blade that would be great)
and a George Wostenholm Pipe razor 5/8 Medium Hollow ground.
Was thinking of sending the pipe to Oz to be properly honed as an everyday and taking my time with the Morley for a resto project.
Thanks for stopping by

Nice purchases. Be weary when buying older/vintage razors or even knew ones of uneven or large amounts of hone wear on the spine. Hone wear can really make razors hard to hone.

Thanked: 9Good advice, to be honest i studied the blade for frown and wear and judged by that. Any tips on evening the spine up? Just for curiosity's sake as i planned on having the Pipe sent out asap for rehoning

Gosh. I wouldn't try putting more hone wear on the spine. But there are tutorials out there about using a "bout" hone to sharpen a razor with uneven wear. It involves not using the spine as a guide, if the makes sense. You can also use several pieces of electrical tape to compensate.

Thanked: 9Thanks, think my complete lack of experience honing razors might be shining through!

No worries. Everyone has to learn somewhere. Also, mileage varies in this area and I guarantee you a "honing expert" will jump in here and shout me down any second.
